Valley View French Booster Club

The Extended French Booster Club is an extension of the Normandale PTO, but separate from the Valley View PTO. Parents are encouraged to participate in both organizations. The Booster Club was formed to address the unique needs of Extended French students and staff and also to serve as a forum to discuss matters pertaining to French curriculum, program development, etc.

The primary purpose of the Booster Club is to support the Valley View teacher trainee program. Each year five or six teacher trainees are brought from France to work in classrooms, one for almost every Valley View Extended French teacher. They are chosen after a rigorous recruiting and selection process and play a significant role in the Extended French classrooms. As students’ language skills increase and their time in French courses decrease, the trainees provide an enriching language, as well as cultural, experience. They are an essential part of Valley View’s Extended French program.
Click on this link “A Day in the Life of a Trainee” to see trainees interacting with students.

The trainee program is entirely parent financed. Fundraising is done primarily through dues that are collected in the fall of each year. Expenses include recruiting costs, health insurance, trainee stipends, visa processing, and various organizational expenses.

In addition, the Booster Club sponsors end-of-year recognition events, solicits host families for the trainees and helps purchase French books, magazines and other materials for the program. The boosters also set aside funds to send teachers to language immersion conferences, such as Canadian Association of (French) Immersion Teachers.

Meeting dates for the 2011-2012 school year will be announced in September.
