FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Edina Public Schools among ‘America’s 25 Best Schools for Your Housing Buck’ Edina, Minn., April 6, 2010 – National business publication Forbes.com recently named Edina Public Schools (EPS) one of “America’s 25 Best Schools for Your Housing Buck.” Edina placed at the top of its category, communities with median house prices valued at $400,000 or under. The 25 best schools are featured in the April 6 edition of Forbes.com. The Web site was especially interested in high school graduation rates, Advance Placement class offerings and student achievement in state mandated standardized tests. EPS was listed as the best value for its home price range, graduating 99 percent of its students from high school, offering Advanced Placement exams in 22 subjects and producing test scores that far exceed the state average. “Finding a great place to live and an excellent school for your kids are two of the biggest decisions a family will ever make, and they are very closely related,” said Bill Jackson, founder and CEO of GreatSchools, an independent nonprofit organization that partnered with Forbes.com to produce the list. To generate the ranking, Forbes.com worked with GreatSchools to analyze 17,377 cities and towns from 49 states and the District of Columbia, using a combination of the most recently available K-12 public school student enrollment and test score data, along with 2009 median home price and population data. The top schools were then broken into five median home price categories and ranked within each category. In the past year, EPS has also been named a Silver Medalist School by the U.S. News & World Report as well as a Top 10 Town for Families by Family Circle magazine.
