EDINA, Minn. – Just in time for Homecoming, Edina High School (EHS) announces the hiring of interim athletic coordinator, Patrick Rock. Rock, who started at EHS on Monday, will be responsible for event management, troubleshooting issues, and assisting the activity site managers with student behavior at events.

“We are very fortunate to have someone with Patrick’s experience and enthusiasm coordinating our extensive athletic program,” said Dr. Bruce Locklear, EHS Principal. “Patrick came in on day one and immediately immersed himself in the job and began the important role of connecting with students and staff. He is a tremendous addition to our Edina High School team.”

Rock comes to EHS with experience in public education teaching and administration, working in Minneapolis Public Schools and most recently at MTS Charter High School in Minneapolis. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout, from which he earned a B.A. in Psychology, and Master’s degrees in education as well as training and human resources development. He is currently completing his administrative licensure at the University of Minnesota.  Rock also brings significant knowledge and experience with high school and college level athletics as an athlete, coach and official.

Rock believes that his combined experiences will serve him well as he works with Edina student athletes, families, staff, coaches and officials.

“I am so excited to join such an excellent program as Edina,” said Rock of his appointment. “Recognizing the many accolades Edina High School has received recently – including Minnesota Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year, a student achieving a perfect ACT score –Edina is clearly doing great things. I am excited to be a part of that tradition of excellence and look forward to connecting with students, families and staff to further promote the athletic and activities program to the Edina High School community.”

Following the resignation of former EHS Athletic Director/Assistant Principal, John Soma, the District opted to split the athletic director job into two positions – an interim athletic coordinator and an interim athletic manager. The part-time interim athletic manager position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school’s athletic and activities department, including responsibilities related to Minnesota State High School League athlete and team eligibilities. The interim athletic manager position has not yet been filled, but Locklear said he hopes to have an announcement on the appointment very soon.

Edina Public Schools is comprised of six elementary schools (K-5), two middle schools (6-9) and one senior high (10-12). Total enrollment is approximately 8,300 students. The District serves a large portion of Edina, a first-tier Minneapolis suburb comprised of approximately 47,450 people.
