Go Green Committee - Busses
In 2006, with a grant from Minnesota Environmental Initiative, Edina’s school bus fleet was retro-fitted with diesel emission reduction equipment. This equipment reduced tailpipe emissions by 50%. Ten of the newest buses have factory installed emission reduction equipment. Emissions on these buses have been reduced by over 80%. With another grant from Minnesota Environmental Initiative, 20 buses now have diesel fired heaters. These heaters help keep the bus engine coolant warm on cold days and make idling the engine unnecessary.
Edina also has a “no idle” policy. The “no idle” policy states that buses do not idle unless it is extremely cold out. The Supervisor of Transportation will make that determination.
